planning is everything

From Planning to Preservation

Digital curation is a catch-all term that describes the entire life-cycle of a digital object. From initial planning and assessment to long-term preservation and all the steps in-between, Sirca can help you create a sensible digital program for your collection.

Our solutions can take into account your state of financial and institutional readiness so you can take things in small steps, knowing that you are going in the right direction.

The essential first step, before you even make the first digital scan, is to create a plan. Even if you don’t have all the answers right now, an initial plan can help you decide on next steps and can help you obtain funding so you can proceed.

Digital Curation

Case Study

The Edwin Washington project involves all aspects of a digital program. Historical records were scanned by the all-volunteer organization. Sirca took the digital assets and created a website and online archive generating rich metadata using AI and volunteer efforts. We also created a plan and instituted long-term preservation storage.

This project required lots of specialized volunteer labor (and still does) but the costs were kept on a shoestring budget. Sirca can help you set a balance between the size of your collection, your timeline, and the available labor and funds, in order to give you the best solution for your organization.
